3 Rivers was established in 2002, and
was the dream of Jem Winston, from the U.K., and begun with
an overgrown banana plantation. Aided by his brother Kal, who
is a joint investor in the business, work began on clearing
the land in preparation for building. By the end of that year
the business opened with one cottage. Today, there are four
guest cottages, a restaurant, bar, games room and full camping
facilities. The idea was to create the ideal getaway, respecting
the environment and working closely with the locals to create
an ambiance that is a mixture of cultures, where people on any
budget can enjoy the natural wonders of Dominica, whilst minimising
the environmental impact and aiding the developement of the
local community of Grand Fond. Together with an excellent team
of local workers, 3 Rivers has achieved Green Globe 21 status,
and is now receiving a steadily growing flow of guests.

My name is Jem Winston,
and I own and manage 3 Rivers. I first discovered Dominica in
1990, when I was backpacking the Caribbean, and fell in love with
the place instantly. I dreamt that one day I would return and
build a small hotel and campsite. In 2002, I returned with my
brother to build 3 rivers. Once the business was established my
brother moved on to continue his teaching career, and I remain
to run what I believe is the perfect holiday getaway. My aim was
to create what I would have liked to find when I was on the road;
a small and friendly place, surrounded by natural beauty, with
friendly staff, where anyone, on any budget, would feel comfortable.
I believe I have succeedded in my wish; I leave it to you to judge.

My name is Gwenneth Lazare.
I live in the beautiful village of Grand Fond located on the south-east
of Dominica. I am head of Housekeeping and the kitchen. As a child
growing up with my grandparents my best skill was to clean the
house & yard. This was my job and I love it very much. Now
working at 3 rivers where we take care of the environment makes
me feel more confident in myself and work, and even more so the
morning dew, singing of the birds and Jem Winston's morning smile.

My name is Edris Phillip
from the beautiful village of Grand Fond, located on the eastern
side of Dominica. I am in charge of the gardens at 3 Rivers. At
a very young age I started preparing local coffee, which I am
very good at. 3 Rivers was named as a result of the separation
of 3 rivers which join at one point and lead to the Rosalie river
down to the sea. 3 Rivers do their best to protect the environment.
I like working at 3 rivers, which is very green and has beautiful
flowers and cottages.
