In keeping with our environmental practices, we have made some modifications to our diesel pick-up truck so that it is now capable of running on used cooking oil. We collect the old oil from a number of local restaurants, (who were previously having trouble disposing of it) filter it through special filter bags, and then put it in a second fuel tank which we have mounted on the back of the truck. The engine is started on diesel, and once the oil has been heated by a radiator connected to the vehicle's cooling system, we switch fuel using a small solenoid mounted in the engine by flicking a switch on the dashboard.
.We modified the truck after hearing about the idea in a few different places and, having done some research on the internet, we worked together with an entrepeneurial local young mechanic, Roydon Bannis, and together we achieved success. If you would like any further details on how to modify your own diesel vehicle, feel free to contact either us, or Roydon direct on roydonbannis@hotmail.com
